 How To Spoil Your Dog

Yes!  That is what I want to tell you; how to SPOIL your dog! There are so many articles and tips on how NOT to spoil your dog, why you should NOT spoil your dog and how bad it is to spoil your dog?

Isn't that exactly what every dog owner wants to know?  I guess not.  We all are desperate to do the exact opposite thing; we love our dogs, we want to give them all the best and of course we naturally want to spoil them.  We think it makes our pets feel better and we know for sure it makes us feel great!  So is spoiling your dog a good thing to do?  Oh, yes it is; you only have to do it in the right way.

I will tell you how I spoil my own dogs and what I recommend to my clients if they want well behaved, good mannered and spoiled pets.

Well, now you know you are going to spoil your dog or you probably have done it already – what would be the first RIGHT thing to do?

WALK – take your dog for good walks. It doesn’t matter how large your garden is for your dog to run around; from the dog’s point of view it is just an extension of his kennel (I am sorry to call your lovely home a kennel, but that’s how it is seen by your dog).  Remember that happy face and madly wagging tail when you pick up your dogs lead or say ‘walkies’?  What a great feeling and what a great tool for spoiling; giving your dog something he really wants!  My article on why your dog loves going for a walk and how to manage your walks correctly is coming soon, so if you are interested come back and have a look.

TRAIN your dog. Your dog loves to do things for you and your dog loves to do things with you.  Dogs have active mind and to keep them happy and balanced it is essential to challenge them. Training your dog won't necessarily mean you have to have lots of time, special equipment or place where to do the training. Start in your kitchen or living room, garden or on your daily walks.  5 minutes will be enough time to ask your dog to sit, to give a paw, lay down or anything else you would like your dog to do.  Get nice treats your dog loves and have fun together; spoil your dog and yourself with a great feeling of a good teamwork!

DISCIPLINE your dog.  Here you might ask; ‘how can discipline be spoiling?’, there is an answer.  The majority of dogs NEED to be told what to do and how to behave to feel safe and happy, they need a good, fair and even tempered PACK LEADER.  To give your dog peace of mind and structure by letting him know he can follow you and be safe is spoiling.  How can you discipline your dog?  Let him know what you don’t like; teach your dog not to bark madly at the doorbell, not to jump on you, not to drag you down streets; anything you don’t like and REWARD all the good things your dog does.  Read how to become a dog’s leader  in my upcoming article.

AFFECTION – after you have spoiled your dog with walks, training and discipline there comes time for cuddles, treats, playing with his favourite toys, inviting your dog to lay down on your sofa while you are watching telly or reading a book (that’s what I just love to do), getting something new for your dog; new toy, new treat, or even some dog fashion accessories. We all naturally want to look good and we want our dogs to stand out from the crowd as well so this is another good way to spoil your dog and yourself.

Do any of these spoiling methods sound hard to do? Of course not!  What really is great, by spoiling your dog in this way; you will certainly have a well behaved dog who is a joy to have around , your world’s best friend.
